Winter Solstice Celebration
On December 22, nearly 50 members of the greater Greensboro community and Wonder & Wisdom kids gathered in Fellowship Hall for a celebration of the return of light to our long winter days. Some children dressed in traditional Scandinavian clothes and others donned Santa Lucia robes and (battery powered) candle headdresses. Each child made their way to the center of an evergreen spiral to light a candle from a central flame, and as they exited the spiral they placed their lit candles on a safe spot, and named wishes and gratitudes. Many adults participated in the ritual as well. There were pieces of poetry recited as well the accompaniment of lovely and melodious violin sounds played by Alexander Romanul, which made the event an incredibly powerful and wonderful experience. Afterwards, guests gathered downstairs in the program space for traditional saffron bread and other homemade goodies.
